![]() ![]() Two other things I should have noted in my original post. If you come up with any more ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them. Since the problem is intermittent, it works well for hours at a stretch until it suddenly freezes. Since Dell's response was to basically blame the problem on the OS and/or drivers, I'm using it and doing more tests hoping to nail down something more concrete. The drive continuously tries to send data, while the drive controller is continuously waiting for data, but the two aren't communicating. What seems to be happening is that the hard drive controller on the mother board makes a read or write request to the drive but fails to hear the drive's response. It happens equally when the computer first starts up and is cold as well as after it has been running for hours and is hot. The freeze doesn't seem to be related to software applications that I'm running, as there is no pattern to it. ![]() I have run extensive memory diagnostics without any errors, and have cloned and replaced the hard drive as a way of eliminating it, but the problem continued with a different drive. They also had me reinstall Win 7, which I have also done 3 times. I reported the problem to Dell and they had me run the diagnostics, which I have done now 3 or 4 times without finding any problems. After about 20-30 seconds, it becomes responsive again, though sometimes it crashes with a BSOD. When it freezes, it does not respond to key presses, Ctrl-Alt-Del, or anything. It stops responding, and when it does, the hard drive light comes on continuously, not blinking as is more normal behavior. I have a Latitude E6430 that I purchased from the Dell Outlet that has been doing the same thing since it arrived.
